Meet Our Team

  • Dr.
    Paul Pifer
    Veterinarian

Dr. Pifer graduated from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1988.  Upon graduation, he spent time working on farm animals in southwest Ohio before moving to Alaska, to work on small animals and horses.  During his time there, Dr. Pifer developed a love for the sport of dog sled racing and has been a volunteer veterinarian on the Iditarod Sled Dog Race 15 times, as well as many other dog races.  During the race season, Dr. Pifer can be seen at many schools and group meetings in the area, presenting his  “Iditarod Talk” so those who never venture to Alaska may also understand these amazing animals.

In 1993, Dr. Pifer moved from Alaska and began working at Countryside Animal Hospital.  He has a tremendous passion for all animals, but feels he is best at helping owners of aging pets optimize their quality of life.  His special interests include orthopedics, dentistry, sled dog medicine, and spinal manipulation.

When not working, Dr. Pifer enjoys being outdoors.  He loves the woods and gardening.  He and his wife hike, camp and kayak as often as they can. When he does retire, or at least slow down, Dr. Pifer really wants to get back into arts/crafts, like he did in high school/college.  His two favorites were pottery and jewelry making.  Dr. Pifer has three grown children, Ashley, Mehgan, and Benjamin, his darling grand children, Eli and Lena, and last but not least his Boston Terrier, Queenie.

  • Kristy B.
    Clinic Manager

Kristy has been with Countryside since 2001.  She began her career here as a receptionist and became the office manager in 2005.  She loves that every day at the hospital brings new challenges and it is always different.  She especially loves helping clients find solutions to problems - She truly wants to help!

When not at the clinic, Kristy can be found with her family doing fun activities or at home playing.  She's an avid runner, gardner and really enjoys any activity that can be done outdoors.

  • Joné S.
    Social Media Director

Joné joined the Countryside family in 2016 with a previous background in the medical and entertainment fields.  She dreams of 'someday' living in a log cabin by a lake (with REALLY good internet service) and raising a garden, goats, and alpaca.  Until then, she is busy raising her puppy pile of 3 English Mastiffs (Ruby May, Squish, and Brother) as well as her rescue kitty, Mama Magnolia Kitty.  She has 2 hands and 3 BIG dogs so, she is always on an adventure.  She cannot help it tho, she likes big mutts and she cannot lie!

  • Renee .
    Lead Veterinary Technician

Countryside Animal Hospital has been fortunate to have Renee as part of our family since 1989. Because of her obvious love for the animals she cares for, she is a client and patient favorite alike. It is not uncommon for her to get a phone call or visit from a concerned pet parent and EVERYTIME she hears them out, answers their questions and allays their fears and concerns. She never forgets a client and is always willing to discuss and assist them with their furbaby’s needs and concerns.

Renee and her husband Dan love to travel and be outdoors. As the weather turns nice, you can find them enjoying their time with family and friends, camping out and  soaking up the sun on the boat. When the weather isn’t so nice here in Ohio, you can find them heading to their happy place, THE BEACH! Fun in the sun never fails to bring a smile to Renee’s face. Come Fall, Renee is a “Ride or Die” Pittsburg Steelers fan and you can guarantee that if she isn’t at the game live, she is cheering on her favorite team loud and proud from home. GO STEELERS!

Sully is her main man of the four legged kind. He comes to work with her everyday and, if you stop by during lunch, he will greet you with his cute little puppy smile and his super fluffer butt tail.

Countryside is so fortunate to have Renee as our Lead Vet Tech. Her experience and love of animals is evident in her gentle “bedside” manner with her four legged patients. Not to mention the peace of mind and confidence she goes above and beyond to share with the parents of her four legged patients. As a leader, she brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to her role and is a wonderful mentor to the technicians on her team.

  • Mike F.
    Kennel Manager, In memoriam

  • Samantha Anne
    Veterinary Technician

Samantha is a 2017 Vet Tech graduate from Stautzenberger College with more than 10 years of both Vet and Kennel Tech experience. All of that experience has been so appreciated as Sam has graciously been wearing more than one hat by juggling not only her Vet Tech responsibilities but, also volunteering to fill in as Kennel Tech whenever and however she can.

When Samantha isn’t working, she enjoys spending time with her long term partner, Jimmy. They are big fans of live concerts, warm nights around the bonfire, and eating delicious home cooked food.

The 4-legged love of Sam’s life is her 7 year old lab mix, Mocha, aka Stinky (pictured). Sam and Mocha are inseparable. They are always on an adventure and have the most fantastic photos to prove it. They love to be outside training and staying in top condition to attend local swamp dog/ultimate air dog competitions. Mocha currently holds the Swamp Dog Senior Division title with a record jump of 16.9ft. When Mocha isn’t busy being a medal winning, jumping dog, Sam loves to dress her up in costumes and believe us, Mocha IS a pretty, pretty, puppy princess.

Everyone in veterinary medicine has a story or reason as to why they went into the field. Samantha’s love and call to care for elderly and infirm animals is what moved her to become a Vet Tech. As a bone cancer survivor, Samantha knows both sides of an exam room. You can tell by how compassionate, loving, and playful she is with the animals that she brings something special to her calling. Sam knows the importance of caring, bringing comfort and sharing a smile because, she brings that with her to Countryside every day.

  • Julie H.
    CSR

Julie’s is one of the first faces you will see when you walk through the door of Countryside Animal Hospital, and we can guarantee, it will be a smiling face. Julie has been in the pet industry for over 17 years. We are extremely fortunate to benefit from her years of pet retail, grooming, and training. She is tremendously creative and loves to do crafts and decorate. We benefit from her love of this hobby because she keeps our clinic looking sharp! Not to mention, she has a handy hubby who has been seen around Countryside Animal Hospital more than once helping with projects.

She and her husband Jeff, have been married for more than 24 years and are the best of friends. They enjoy living near the Maumee River and getting out into nature as often as possible. From the minute the Winter snow clears to the very last leaf has fallen, you can find Julie and her hubby at the campground with their friends and family. Especially their 5 Chihuahuas and 3 beautiful grand daughters.

Being an animal lover, Julie has had many breeds and species of pets over the years. She is currently the proud dog mom of 5 adorable Chihuahuas; Irish, Kisses, Leo, Raven, and her newest Bellatrix (Trix for short). One of her favorite past times is cuddling with her babies. We’ve seen pix of this adorable puppy pile and while she has said she thinks she’s at “lap capacity”, we think if you did some puppy Tetris, you might be able to add one or two more for the maximum cuddle experience. All 5 of Julie’s Chihuahuas are seasoned out-of-doors adventure puppies and love to go for stroller rides and camping with mom and dad. If you need a smile, call us at Countryside, Julie will give you hers.

  • Liz S.
    Kennel Technician

Liz has been in the pet industry in some way shape or form for the better part of 20 years. Some of you may remember Liz as one of our former CSR’s and we are so pleased to have her back. When we needed family the most, she voluntarily stepped up, this time taking on the role of Kennel Tech. Liz is a true animal lover. More often than not, we have to convince her (for the sake of her marriage) that she cannot possibly adopt the current cat/kitten/dog/(insert any animal needing love and protection).

Liz’s family includes; Nelli, a Papillon mix who loves to go to the park and kayaking. Liz also has 2 cats, Katrina and Bean. Kat loves cuddles and dinnertime. Bean loves to create havoc wherever she goes! She came directly from Countryside, cute enough to take home and risk the marriage. And lastly, Tex her 28 year old thoroughbred. He’s enjoying retirement by getting fat and sassy.

When not working, she enjoys traveling with her husband, hiking, riding horses, kayaking, reading, and having adventures with Nelli, her Papillon mix.

When asked what she enjoyed about being a part of Countryside, she answered; “I love getting to interact with the animals and making sure they are cared for and loved as if they were at home.”

  • Amy .
    CSR

If you have met our CSR Amy, you would swear that she was currently at the “Happiest place on earth.” And, while Countryside isn’t Disney, which is Amy’s happy place, her smile and magical personality will have you feeling like you have just entered the Magic Kingdom.

Amy is new to the pet industry but, has had a heart and home full of fluffy family members for as long as she can remember. Her fur family currently consists of Chow chow Chima, 1 cute and crazy Pomeranian (Natty) and 1 curious cat (Chelsea). Her family doesn’t stop at the 4 legged types either. She has her heart and hands full with 5 children and 11 grandchildren. She and her hubby Stephen enjoy going on cruises, visiting Disney and spending time with their family. Amy and Stephen will be celebrating 20 years of magical married bliss this year. Congratulations Amy and Stephen!!!!!

We asked Amy what her favorite part of working at Countryside was. She exuberantly shared that she enjoys working with the most amazing co-workers, clients and their pets! Having Amy on the front line as a CSR gives Countryside a little bit of that Disney warmth and magic and we are here for it.

  • Kenzie M.
    Veterinary Technician

Kenzie credits her aunt working at Country Squire Animal Hospital in Oregon, OH for getting her interested in the veterinary industry. She would always get to go in the back and visit the animal patients anytime she went to visit her aunt at work. Fast forward a few years and Kenzie worked as an assistant at Country Squire Animal Hospital for 7 years, forever solidifying her love of working with and caring for animals.

Kenzie has quite the pet family and not only is Kenzie a 4 legged animal lover, she loves the reptiles and arachnids too! She has over 25 reptiles and one lovely lady tarantula, named Sathra.

When Kenzie isn’t rescuing all the animals, you can find her hanging around… literally. She is an aerial silks artist and enjoys giving friends and family heart attacks with her gravity defying skills.

At the end of the day, Kenzie's heart is really with shelter dogs and one of her long term goals is to open her own shelter one day.
